In short: Some links on hellobills earn us a commission if you switch or sign up. It costs you nothing extra. It never changes what we recommend.

How we make money

hellobills is free to use. We earn revenue in two ways: display advertising (Google AdSense) and affiliate commissions. Affiliate links are our primary source of income and are what allow us to keep the site running without charging readers.

What are affiliate links?

An affiliate link is a tracked URL. When you click one and complete an action (switching energy supplier, signing up for broadband, getting an insurance quote), the provider pays us a referral fee. This happens at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go directly.

Where affiliate links appear

Affiliate links appear primarily on our deal pages. They link to energy comparison sites (accredited by Ofgem), broadband providers, and insurance comparison platforms. Every page that contains affiliate links is clearly marked with an "Affiliate links" label near the top.

Our editorial policy

Affiliate relationships do not influence our content. We follow these principles:

We recommend what is cheapest or best value, not what pays us the most. If the best deal has no affiliate link, we still recommend it and link to it directly.

We show total costs, not headline prices. Many providers advertise low monthly prices but have high setup fees or mid-contract rises. We always calculate the real total.

We tell you when not to switch. If your current deal is competitive, we say so. We would rather you trust us long-term than earn a one-off commission.

All facts are sourced from official regulators. Our data comes from Ofgem, Ofcom, Ofwat, the FCA, HMRC, and local council publications. We never rely on provider marketing.

Types of affiliate partnerships

We may earn commissions from the following types of partners:

Energy comparison sites accredited by Ofgem (e.g. Uswitch, Compare the Market).
Broadband providers and comparison sites (e.g. Uswitch, Broadband Choices).
Insurance comparison sites (e.g. Compare the Market, GoCompare, Confused.com).
Solar, boiler, and insulation lead generation services.

We do not accept payment for editorial coverage and do not publish "sponsored content" presented as independent advice.

FCA compliance note

hellobills provides general information about household bills and how to reduce them. We do not provide regulated financial advice as defined by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Content about insurance, energy switching, and other financial products is informational only. You should always do your own research or consult a qualified adviser before making financial decisions.
