Founder & Author, hellobills

I'm a software engineer based in London. I built hellobills because I kept opening my energy bill and having no idea whether I was being ripped off.

My background is in software engineering, not financial services. What I bring to this is the ability to read dense regulatory documents (Ofgem consultations, Ofwat determinations, Ofcom market reports, FCA data) and pull out the numbers that matter, and explain them in plain English without trying to sell you anything.

I research and write every guide on this site myself. Figures are sourced from primary regulator publications and cross-referenced against at least two independent sources before going live. Guides are reviewed quarterly, or sooner when there's a material change like a new price cap or regulatory update.

Why a developer?

UK household bills aren't complicated because the maths is hard. They're complicated because the information is scattered across PDF annexes, supplier terms, and regulator websites designed for compliance, not readability. Getting to the truth is a research and data problem, which is what I do professionally.

I also test the advice on my own bills. If I recommend requesting a water meter or checking your standing charge, it's because I've done it and can tell you what it actually involves, not just what the FAQ says.

What I cover

Every guide on hellobills covers energy (gas & electricity), broadband, council tax, water, or household insurance: the recurring costs that quietly drain money if you don't stay on top of them. The goal is to give you the maths and the context to make your own decisions, not to push you towards a specific deal.

Note: hellobills is not a financial adviser. Everything here is for general information only and should not be treated as financial advice. Always speak to a qualified professional for advice specific to your circumstances.
